Description

I am pleased to offer this Scarce Antique 1/4 Plate Thermoplastic Union Case!  This case has the scarce “Lyre in Wide Portal” Motif.  The engraver’s name, R. Payne, appears to the right of the base of the lyre.  This case was produced by the S. Peck & Co. c. mid 1850s.  The case is missing its original pillow insert, however it does retain its original S. Peck manufacturer label.

The case is complete, however the hinges have broken from the lid and need to be repaired (displays just as well when stood up).

The case comes with a great 1/4 plate daguerreotype photograph of a distinguished and prominent looking man.  The dag remains in its original flat brass oval mat and brass preserver.

This antique dag photograph is in good condition for its age.  There is some moderate dust on the photograph, as well as an interesting ring of discoloration.  There is moderate patina on the brass mat and protector.

The case is in very good condition aside from the hinges, showing very mild scratching and minor chipping along the edges.

Measures approx. 4-1/8″ W x 5″ H
