Double Daguerreotype Paper Mache Case 1/6 Plate MoP Inlay w/ Photos



  • Beautiful Example of a Fancy Antique Photograph Case
  • This case, also called a “casket” has a wood body with Paper Mache covers.  The front cover has a hand painted floral motif with inlaid mother of pearl.
  • The interior has 2 lovely red velvet pad (lyre motif), and holds 2 1/6 Plate daguerreotypes of a man and woman. 
  • It is interesting to note that these types of rare cases were all individually made, typically one of a kind. 
  • There are similar styles, inlay, etc.  however finding an exact duplicate is very unlikely.

exterior shows some crazing on both covers. There is mild paint loss on the front cover, and some tiny chips to the MoP inlay. The spine is original and intact, holding strong. Pat of the original clasp is missing. The interior has minor wear to the red velvet pads, and minimal loss to the paper trim. The dag of the man shows some light dust and some discoloration long the mat (not sealed), The woman dag shows heavy discoloration and some scratching.
