Antique 19th Century Small Portable Wooden Lap Desk Box w/ Lock Leather Covering

  • Very interesting Antique 19th Century (1800s) Small Lap Desk
  • These ingenious items were created to help people write their letters/correspondence while on the go: having spots for inkwells, writing utensils, and an area to store paper/envelopes.
  • The lid acted as a flat writing surface
  • This particular model is quite small compared to the standard, and has a wood frame with leather covered exterior.
  • Likely a more affordable and practical model for people who couldn’t spend on an ornate, large scale wooden desk.
  • The piece looks to have suffered from an inkwell break at some point (see photos).
  • Thin brass lock, no key included
  • Measures approx. 7-3/8″ x 6-1/2″ x 1-5/8″
  • Great addition to your collection!

Fair overall condition. The exterior shows some moderate wear to the leather with some small spots of loss and heavy staining from ink. The wood construction of the box remains solid. The interior shows some moderate wear to the paper lining and similar ink staining as well. The key for the lock is missing.
