Description
Moderate patina and scratching from age. Large hole top center, likely for threading ribbon or award string in order to wear the medal. Moderate nicks along the edge.
I am pleased to offer a rare medallion dated 1894 from the Cherbourg Horticultural Society.
Copper with Bronze finish.
This beautiful medal features the words “Societe D’Horticulture De Cherbourg” on the front.
The reverse features raised relief of a wreath of plants and vegetables and is marked “26 Exposition 1894, M.E. Becquet Coleus”.
So I’m assuming this Becquet grew some grand coleus plants to earn this medal.
There is a small hole at the top in the center. Edge stamped “Cuivre”
The bronze piece measures 2-3/16″ in diameter and is 1/8″ thick.
Moderate patina and scratching from age. Large hole top center, likely for threading ribbon or award string in order to wear the medal. Moderate nicks along the edge.
