2 Tintype Photos ID’d Alexander W. Geer Post War Militia & Children

$0.00

  • Very Nice Pairing of Identified 19th Century Tintypes
  • First Photograph is a roughly 1/4 Plate Tintype of a Young Alexander Geer in a Militia Uniform (believed to be NY) and backpack.  The photo comes taped to a thick brass mat, and is labeled on the back. Post Civil War, likely Late 1860s maybe early 1870s
  • Second photograph is a 1/6 Plate Tintype of Geer with two boys (presumably sons). The photo is dated “Summer 1883 at Fort Lee”
  • Fine addition to any collection!

Notable Mentions:

  • I was able to find records of a Alexander Cornelius Whiting Geer, born c. 1848 in New York.
  • He is recorded of having two sons, born 1873 & 1875…which would look to match the ages of the boys in the 1883 photograph.
  • The boys were listed as being born in New Jersey, which also potentially matches the Fort Lee Location
