World Discoverer Antarctica Expedition Cruise Poster
I am pleased to offer a poster marked “Antarctica, Society Expeditions 25th Anniversary”. This poster measures 33″ X 23 1/2″ and features a wonderful image of a ship traveling by a large group of penguins.
The World Discoverer was a cruise ship designed for and built by Schichau Unterweser, Germany, in 1974. In July 1976, the vessel was sold to Adventure Cruises Inc. and was renamed the World Discoverer. The ship also became a long term charter to Society Expeditions. The vessel had a double hull construction allowing for periodic voyages to Antarctic Peninsula region for its passengers to observe ice flow movements and protection from any minor impacts. The ship carried a fleet of inflatable dinghies allowing passenger to move closer to ice floes for observation. On Sunday April 30, 2000 at 4:00 pm local time, the ship struck a large uncharted rock or reef on the Sandfly Passage, Solomon Islands. After underwater surveying of the ship, the World Discoverer was declared a “Constructive Loss”.
Poster is in good condition showing only some light creasing and edge wear. Has been stored rolled and still displays very well.
Thank you for viewing!
