Vintage WWII Military Shoulder Patch Green Black Shield

This appears to be a vintage military patch, possibly from World War II. The patch looks like it would be worn on the shoulder of a uniform. It’s in the shape of a shield and has an army-green background with black stripes surrounding a smaller shield-shaped design. There is also a black circle with something else in the center that I can not make out.. maybe you know!  (To me, this looks like a rifle or a hand holding a torch, but I could be way off!)

Patch is in good condition showing light wear. The back side is very clean. Measures 2 7/8″ tall and 2 1/4″ at widest point.
