This antique Mourning Locket is in good condition for its age. There is some mild scratching to the exterior, but no cracks or chips. The small glass covering the tintype has a small chip.

I am pleased to offer this Rare Antique Mid-1800s Victorian Era Vulcanite Shield Style Mourning Locket!
This beautiful macabre piece is shaped as a shield, and the front is engraved with a “G” flanked by wreath branches.
Opening the locket reveals a gem size Tintype photograph of a woman, and some hair bound in antique paper. The inner walls of the locket are beautifully textured and styled.
The locket is made of Vulcanite, and has a dark and rich brown tone. The interior shows evidence that birch sap was used to keep it closed.
Measures approx. 1-5/8″ H x 1-1/8″ W x 3/8″ Thick
