Rare 1936 Marx Popeye the Champ Celluloid & Tin Wind Up Boxing Toy Working VG
$0.00
When wound up, you push the lever on the side and the figures begin furiously spinning, causing their jointed arms to swing wildly! When the bell rings, the mechanism randomly selects which figure is “knocked out” by tipping them outwards towards the ropes.
Since celluloid is a very fragile material, it is rather hard to find these figures in such good condition!
This Popeye the Champ toy is in Very good Working Condition. The sides of the ring with the lithograph remain colorful, and show very minimal scratching. The top of the ring has mild scratching along the edges, and has darkend from age and dust (could use a clean by the new owner!). The celluloid figures are in really good shape considering their fragility. The small bar has popped through the side of Brutus’ and Popeye’s left arm (see photos).
The wind up is strong and is in good working order, and when tested the toy functions as intended.
This is a really great center piece and must-have addition to any Popeye or Marx collection!
Measures approx. 7-1/8″ x 7-1/8″ x 7″ H (with figures attached)
