Civil War Tintype Photo Young Soldier Flag in Patriarch Union Case

$0.00

  • Excellent shot of a Young Civil War Soldier
  • The young man sits in a chair with a draped American flag behind him
  • The flag appears to be the 35-star flag, with common usage between 1863-65
  • Back has some markings and what appears to be a name, but I am unable to decipher.  Could be “154” and “Minkemen”…however searches for that name have not surfaced anything.
  • Bottom of plate has a partial stamp: “Melainotype”
  • 1/6th plate tintype, paired with brass mat, preserver and glass
  • Nicely housed in a light brown thermoplastic case
  • “Profile of Learned Man” – Berg 1-81 Scarce; “Profile of a Patriarch” Krainik 156 Rare
  • Great addition to any collection!

Description

Very light scratching on the image along with coloration along the upper mat edges . Clarity is nice. Tintype appears paired with the brass mat, preserver and glass as the colorations and tiny abrasions on the tin don’t match perfectly with the mat. Brass shows mild patina, and preserver bending. Case is in great overall shape with exception to one large chip on the upper top edge, likely caused at some point by removal as the image fits very tightly in the case. Hinges are solid, light crack on bottom hinge. Clasp is functional.
