  • Very Nice Civil War Period CDV Photograph
  • This photograph is in 1865, just post the End of the Civil War
  • Portrait of Captain Alvah S. Stone of the 57th Ohio Volunteer Infantry
  • Alvah is a well known Captain, having lead his men in numerous battles curing the war
  • He is also well known because of the in-depths accounts he wrote during the war that survived, including about the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain. 
  • He also kept a diary during his time as a captive POW, this diary is held in the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museum.

 

  • This CDV was taken in Galion, Ohio just after Skilton had mustered out of the Army and returned home.
  • The photograph was taken by F.B. Zay, and has the period 2-cent orange perforated U.S. Inter.Rev. Tax Stamp affixed to the back (simple X cancel)
  • Standard size CDV, measures approx. 2-3/8″ x 3-15/16″

Good overall Condition. Light staining on the image and card along with some light edge wear from storage/age. Original Tax stamp remains strongly affixed to the back with minor wear.
