  • Beautiful Example of a Scarce Fancy Antique Photograph Case
  • This case has a wood body with Shell Veneer on the covers.  The front cover has a floral motif with inliad mother of pearl, abalone shell, and silver wire.
  • The interior has a lovely red velvet pad, and holds a 1/6th Plate ambrotype of a handsome young man.  The interior has bovine bone trim. 
  • It is interesting to note that these types of rare cases were all individually made, typically one of a kind. 
  • There are similar styles, inlay, etc.  however finding an exact duplicate is extremely unlikely.

Description

The shell veneer has a few cracks on both covers and some mild chipping along the edges. The interior trim shows some mild discoloration from age, the left bar has a chip and doesn’t match the rest. The bottom hinge has evidence of adhesive repair. The included ambrotype shows some light dust and minor scratching, as well as some heavy patina to the brass mat. The clasp does not function.
