  • Very Nice original typed letter from the First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt
  • The letter was typed as a response to a request to speak on a specific topic in her column in McCall’s Magazine, May 13, 1961.
  • Reads as follows: “Dear Miss Matson, Thank you very much for your kind letter.  Unfortunately I am not free to write about the Temple of Understanding in my column in McCall’s as the questions for answering are chosen by the Editor.  With many regrets, very sincerely yours, Eleanor Roosevelt”
  • Her name is hand signed in blue ink on the bottom.
  • The letter was addressed to a Miss Katinka Matson of Greenwich, Connecticut.  The original opened envelope is included.
  • The stationary has the visible watermark of The American Stationary Company, Inc.
  • Letter measures approx. 6″ x 6-7/8″

Note: The Temple of Understanding was an organization founded in 1960 by Juliet Hollister.  Their goal is to educate youth & adults both cross culturally and inter-religiously for global citizenship and peaceful coexistence.  Eleanor Roosevelt was amongst the groups original “Founding Friends”, and she was an avid supporter. They are active today.

Excellent overall condition. Has been stored/kept in a boarded plastic sleeve with original opened envelope. Very minor edge wear and some miniscule dust from storage.
