  • Very Nice and Uncommon Set of Civil War Discharge and Related Papers
  • Items belonged to a George W. Amheiser, of Blair County Pennsylvania.
  • The first discharge paper is from the 22nd Cavalry, Pennsylvania Volunteers.  This company lasted for 6 months, he was mustered in July 21, 1863….Promoted to Corporal July 30, 1863.  Mustered out February 9th, 1864.  These papers are signed by the company Captain, William L. Neff and given at Harrisburg, PA.  He was 23 Years old
  • The second discharge paper is from the Company E of the 104th Pennsylvania Volunteer infantry. He was mustered in February 15th, 1865 and ranked as a Private under Captain Robert Johnson.  He participated in the Battle of Petersburg, Virginia.  Then he was mustered out on August 25th, 1865.  The document is stamped “Paid in Full Aug 30 1865, Maj. W. HH. Allen Paymaster U.S.A.” He was 24 Years Old.
  • The Pension Paper was given to his Widow, Abigail Amheiser, after his death in 1906. It states she is entitled to his pension under the provisions of the Act of June 27, 1890 at the rate of $8 per month which she could collect from the Pension Agent in “Pittsburg, Pa.”  The is the Original Certificate, numbered 616786, signed by E.A. Hitchcock, secretary of the interior.  It was later stamped in 1912, when the rate increased to $12 a month
  • Discharge papers measures approx. 8-1/2″ x 11″, Pension approx.  7-7/8″ x 10-5/8″

Description

Excellent overall condition. Both discharge papers show some light staining, and have some moderate creases from folding. All three papers have been long kept in plastic sleeves. All of the original text, both printed and handwritten, is clearly legible.
