  • This collection has 5 original photographs of William Jewett Tucker (1839-1926)

 

  • The first photograph is a Cabinet Card Photo, c. 1890s.  Tucker looks a bit younger here.  The photo was taken by A.N. Hardy of Boston, MA.  Hardy can be found listed in Sampson, Davenport Boston City Directory at this address (493 Washington St.) in 1882.  Listed at a different address in 1901.  Back is signed in pencil “Father William Jewett Tucker”  4-1/4″ x 6-1/2″

 

  • Second Photograph is another Cabinet Style Photograph, c. Early 1900s.  Tucker has gone full Gray here. Taken  at the famous studio of Boston photographer Elmer Chickering, who was known for his photos of politicians, celebrities and other important people of the day.  This is the original photograph used in Tucker’s published book “My Generation – An Autobiographical Interpretation”. This book was copyrighted 1919.  6″ x 8″

 

  • Third Photograph is a lovely Studio photograph, c. 1900-1910.  The photograph was taken by Notman, who can be found listed in Boston City directories 1901, 1905.  On the folding cover is written “The youth of 54”, and on the back “My Father Tucker”.  6-1/8″ x 10″

 

  • Fourth Photograph is another smaller Studio portait Photograph, 1910s-maybe early 1920s. No Photographer or location markings, however back is marked “William J. Tucker:” 4-1/2″ x 6-1/2″

 

  • Fifth and final picture is a small round-cut studio photograph of Tucker with two children, presumably his children or perhaps grandchildren.  Comes in a nice vintage gold-painted wood frame.  The back is missing. frame 4-7/8″ x 5-5/8″

 

  • Also accompanying the photos is a printed publication: “The Historic College – Its present place in the educational system – An address delivered by William Jewett Tucker upon his inauguration as President of Dartmouth College, June 28, 1893 – With the exercises attending the inauguration.  Hanover, N.H. Printed for the College 1894”

Description

Good overall condition. The older Cabinet cards show some mild staining and edge wear. The Studio portraits are in good shape, showing some light scratching and mild wear to their holders. the included printing is missing the original cover and shows moderate wear overall. Frame is missing original back.
