Antique 1922 Dinah Short Sleeve Black Cast Iron Jolly Mechanical Bank

$700.00

I am pleased to offer this Antique (circa 1922) Cast Iron Dinah Mechanical Coin Bank. This is a unique piece of history, and reminds us of a very different time! Manufactured by John Harper Co. LTD of Willenhall, England; this bank has you place a coin in her hand, and with a push of the lever on the back of her arm Dinah raises her arm and swallows the coin as her eyes roll back into her head. The body is a two-piece casting and the arm is a two-piece casting as well. This particular bank is set aside from other similar banks by her short sleeves. The bottom of the bank features a cast plate with holes, held in by a single screw, marked “Made in England”

The firm John Harper & Co can be traced back to the lock making businesses of William Brueton (founded in 1790). The company was re-incorporated as a limited company in 1888, and had expanded significantly by the late 19th century with a variety of continually increasing products such as locks, bicycles, lamp castings and novelty items. In 1899 the company first registered its trade mark, ‘Beatrice’.

This Antique Cast Iron Mechanical Bank is in great condition for its age.  TIt appears to be an old repaint over the original yellow.  Oxidation is moderate across the base plate, and is lightly visible across the body in spots of paint wear, interior shows moderate oxidation.  Fully functional, the bank works great!  The arm raises easily as the tongue & eyes moves back and forth.

Measures approx. 7″ H x 5″ W x 5″ Deep
