  • Lewis N. Tappan (1931-1880) was a notable pioneer of Colorado, a politician, and an abolitionist.
  • We was from the prominent Tappan family of Massachusetts, his father being Col.Ebenezer Tappan
  • Lewis is noted as the operator of the first store in the Colorado Territory, and was actively involved in the government of Denver.
  • He was also one of the first 3 white men who entered the “Garden of the Gods”, and was involved in the naming.
  • First photo shows Lewis and his wife, likely sometime in the late 1860s/early-1870s after they were married. 
  • The second photograph is his portrait, hand-signed on the back “Lewis N. Tappan. Jan. 19th-1877”

Very good overall condition. Light discoloration and mild edge wear from age. Both display great.
