  • Very interesting C.1880s #2 Garderner’s Tool Walking Stick
  • First patented in 1884 by R.W. Cowen of Cumberland, England.
  • The end of the ordinary walking stick is attached a pruning blade
  • The original sheath and the blade are both marked “Cowen’s Patent” and have his trademark.
  • Blade measures approx. 7-3/8″ L, Handle/Sheath approx. 9-1/4″ Long
  • Total overall length including shaft: 35-1/2″
  • Great addition to your collection! 

NOTE: Included in the listing pictures are copies of pages taken from a 1896 book of patent information, which shows a quick review of his patent in 1884.  These will be printed out and included with the walking stick.

Description

Very Good overall condition for its age. The blade shows moderate oxidation and scratching from age, remains firmly affixed to the bolster. The original leather sheath/handle shows some moderate wear to the leather and scratching to the wood handle. The original strap and buckle remain intact, but are somewhat fragile. The wood shaft shows some scratching from age. The original brass ferrule is slightly loose.
