1938 Hudson Terraplane Car Hood Ornament Art Deco Buster Crabbe Flash Gordon VG

$995.00

  • I am very pleased to offer this Very Rare 1938 Hudson Terraplane Hood Ornament!  This sleek, futuristic hood ornament (or mascot) adorned the c. 1938 model of the Hudson Terraplane.
  • The very art deco spaceship looking ornament has a streamlined design, and retains its lustrous chrome and red painted accents.
  • Curved acrylic base is added to allow display of the piece. Can easily be removed via flathead screw on the bottom.
  • This part that truly makes this piece stand out is on the rear tail of the base, the engraved signature of Buster Crabbe can be seen!  Buster Crabbe starred as Flash Gordon in the 1930s serial movies, and in 1938 “Flash Gordon’s Trip to Mars” was released
  • The signature looks hand engraved, tool marks evident. (definitely not a stamp or cast signature).
  • The under-inside of the ornament has an embossed “126570”, likely a part #
  • Measures approx. 8-1/2″ L x 3/4″ W x 3″ Tall

Description

The ornament is in very good condition, showing some mild scratching and a few medium sized nicks from age. The red paint is mostly intact, with some mild loss along the striped on the left-facing side. The scratches/nicks are a little difficult to see due to the high reflectivity of the chrome, however an example is shown in the second to last photo.
